Why Start an Import Business?

I started my business importing from China when I was 23 and enrolled at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. Like many entrepreneurs, this wasn’t my first adventure into entrepreneurism which ranged from selling homework answers in Grade 4 to boot-legged Playstation 1 Video Games in 1997 (after purchasing a CD Burner for over $900 after winning at Bingo when I was 13).

There’s a ton of good reasons to import from China. My biggest motivations are it gives me an opportunity to make a lot of money and live a lifestyle I enjoy. Here’s a list of some of the good reasons to begin a business importing from China.

  • Potential to make a lot of money.
  • Live a lifestyle that lets you travel to a country that is spectacular to visit as a traveler.
  • Start a business importing and developing products you love and have a passion for.
  • An opportunity to live a lifestyle void of 40 hour work weeks.
  • Potential to make a lot of money.
Why import from china

Why you should import from China

To many successful entrepreneurs, the amount of money I make is meager compared to the riches they’ve earned. But at 26, I can truthfully say I don’t have many friends who make as much money as me. And definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, I don’t know a single person who has has as much freedom as me or who enjoys working as much as I do (I’ve yet to see any Facebook photos from friends on a business trip at the Forbidden Palace!).

You Gotta Be Passionate

To be successful, I firmly believe you must have three passions: a passion for the product you’re importing, a passion for different cultures, and a passion for money.

Ultimately you’re going to be selling the products you import. No matter how you sell this product, be it direct-selling or on eBay, if you’re not passionate about it, you’ll have limited success.

Chinese culture is a lot different than ours in the West. I’ve met countless importers who cannot stand doing business in China or with the Chinese. The cultural differences are too frustrating and confusing for them. You’ll last a lot longer (and make a lot more money) if you go in with the mindset of being excited to understand these differences and have fun with them. The more you’re willing to understand another culture, the more successful you’ll be in both your business and personal life (</end cheese).

Finally, if you don’t love money, you’re going to have a hard time dealing with a culture whose religion is cash. As The Beatles once said “The love you take is equal to the love you make”. Make love with money and it’ll return its love in dividends.
