Tip: Never Use Your Supplier's SKU

Here’s an ultra simple tip to keep your competitors from spying on your products: never use your Supplier’s SKU when advertising your products. For example, if your Supplier sells a bathroom sink with a SKU of BTHRSNK02a never advertise it with that SKU. Create you own SKU, i.e. SNK0001, and use that instead.

The first thing I do when importing a new product is to google the SKU given by the supplier. Within minutes I can find a wealth of information including pictures, product descriptions, and of course, pricing. I can also see what other products this competitor imports from our supplier. By using a different SKU, you make it considerably harder for your competitors to do research on your products.
