Who Am I?
I’m a 30 year old white guy (but half Chinese as my nainai would say) from Vancouver, B.C. who’s been involved with business in China for nearly half of my life. Since 2008, I’ve run a business sourcing over 300 products from China, currently doing in excess of $1million in revenue per year.
I first got started doing business in China as a 16 year old kid helping a family friend sell products online for an item he was having manufactured in China. A few years later, I ventured on my own and started my own business while doing a business degree at Simon Fraser University.
Today I run a business with 3 full time staff along with seasonal help. My best friend, who happens to be Chinese and also happens to be my wife, helps me navigate many of the cultural nuances and language barriers. Together we are responsible for confirming the belief that Chinese people really are taking over the world by bringing a half-Caucasian, half-Chinese daughter into the world, due August 8, 2015 (according to Chinese standards, that date could only be luckier if it happened 7 years earlier).
Aside from being a big promoter of doing business in China, I’m a Chinese culture enthusiast in general. My Chinese language skills are matched only by my soccer skills. According to Tommy (my second best friend) this would mean I speak incredible Chinese, but according to most, it would mean my Chinese is extremely poor!
